It is one idea, not ten facts
Every other table is a list to learn. This one is a single move: take the number, take it again. A child who can work out that two fives are ten does not need to memorise 5 × 2, and pretending otherwise teaches them that maths is recitation.
What to watch for
Every answer in this table is even, and that is worth pointing out, because it is the first time a child sees a whole table share a property. If an answer comes back odd, the answer is wrong, and the child can find that out without being told.
