English Games for Children Aged 5 to 10

Six English games: colours, animals, food and vehicles by picture, then listening games where a child hears the word and picks or spells it.

The 6 games

Colours

Word into the right bucket

Animals

Match the word to the animal

Food

Match the word to the food

Things that go

Cars, planes, boats

Listen and pick

Hear it, find the picture

Listen and write

Hear it, spell it

A wrong answer never passes: the task stays and the help grows. Anything missed comes back tomorrow, then in three days, then in a week.

Six games that move a child from recognising a word to writing it, in the order a foreign language is actually taught: hear it, match it, then spell it.

The order they go in

  1. Colours โ€” drag the written word onto the right paint pot. The pots carry patterns as well as colour, so the game works without colour vision.
  2. Animals, Food, Things that go โ€” match the written word to the picture.
  3. Listen and pick โ€” hear the word, choose the picture. No reading needed.
  4. Listen and write โ€” hear the word and spell it, letter by letter, on a drawn keyboard. This is the hardest step and the last one.

Every word is spoken

The game speaks each word aloud with the device's own voice, and a speaker button repeats it. A seven-year-old beginner cannot read English instructions, so the interface leans on pictures, numbers and sound rather than sentences.

Your own word list

A parent can paste the words from this week at school into the settings page. Those words join the built-in ones in the listening games and in "Write words". The research on vocabulary is clear that the words a child actually meets beat any fixed list.

Which words are built in

The bank follows the topics in the Polish curriculum for a first foreign language at this stage โ€” home, school, food, animals, things that go โ€” and stays inside the range covered by Cambridge Pre A1 Starters.
