What this practises

Adding and taking away inside a hundred. The jump from twenty is a jump in method rather than in size: two-digit numbers stop being lumps and start having tens and units inside them.

How to use it

Let the child write working out beside the question. On paper that is allowed and on a screen it is not, which is the main thing a worksheet adds to this site.

What to look for

A pause on 40 + 30 means the tens are not yet automatic. A pause only on 47 + 38 means the tens are fine and the carrying is not. Those are two different problems with two different fixes, and the sheet tells them apart.
